Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers

So Dennis has continued his habit of falling out of bed in the middle of the night.  Because the bed is fairly high, and because he’s usually on the side that’s closest to the wall (my side), causing him to secondarily bang into the wall after hitting the floor, we decided to set up a landing pad so he can perform his stunt without hurting himself.  Now, the route to my side of the bed consists of a layer of pillows followed by a layer of blankets, with an additional layer of pillows along the wall.

How does it work?  No idea.  Since we set this up, Dennis hasn’t taken a tumble.  However, both he and Trixie have taken to sleeping in Pillow Alley, which means that if I get up in the middle of the night, I kind of have to shimmy off the foot of the bed in order to avoid possibly stepping on a snoozing pup.

Ah, the things we do for our pets …

  2. Hey Dennis that looks pretty fluffy! Does pillow alley stay up all the time or just get set up each night? What nice parents you have. So far I’ve never been able to weasel my way onto the bed or the leather furniture. Mom got me a new bolster bed for upstairs. I like it A LOT! If I’m tired I’ll even go upstairs before mom & dad do. But they always drag me out for a “business trip” before they go to bed. Haven’t they ever heard the phrase ‘let sleeing dogs lie’ ??

Jim says: I had planned to disassemble it in the mornings, but the dogs seem to like it so much that I’m leaving it up. They have me well trained.

  3. That’s a nice set up Dennis. When Mandy was “new” she couldn’t jump on the bed with her little crooked legs so hubby made foam steps beside the bed and she would run up them. We definitely love our pets, don’t we.

  4. Dennis,

Pillow Alley looks like it would make a great bed for you and dada. Maybe you and dada can sleep there and you won’t have to worry about falling off the bed anymore. Sounds like a great idea to me.

Jim says: Yeah, our friends suggested that “Pillow Alley” would be for me, while Dennis would stay in the bed …

  5. Aww, that’s so cute! The first and only time Loki fell off the bed, he barked, and looked up at me with a dirty look as if saying, “What’d you do that for?!” He’s learned to sleep in the middle of the bed though. Which pretty much means I’m squished up in a ball on the pillows and Jason… well, he can deal with it when he gets home =)

  6. OK, now I’ve never heard of a big dog falling out of bed. He must play hard and sleep hard! He has a good mommy and daddy to make a stunt landing pad for him that’s for sure.
