A Decade of Dennis

Ten years and two days ago …ten_years_ago_1

Ten years ago right now …

ten_years_ago_2Ten Years Ago A Few Hours From Now …

This male would soon become Dennis, so the foster care was indeed short. And yes, he definitely needed a bath.

Ten years ago a few days from now …

The boy who was afraid of the leash? That would be Dennis.

Yes, yes he did still smell.

Yes, I “might” do “a” blog post about Dennis. Little did I know he would proceed to take over what had up until then been my author blog, and turn it into a dog blog …

Dennis’s first vet bill with us — for what was quite possibly his first-ever vet visit — back when he was still “No Name 1”. (“No Name 2” was one of his brothers.)

And so all four lost vizslas went to foster care, then to their forever homes — several of which turned out to be the same homes as their foster homes. You know how that goes.

It’s been a long time since Dennis came to live with us as a skinny, mangy, terrified rescue, and he’s done many things―agility, flyball, obedience―that he might not have experienced if he hadn’t been lost or dumped out in the desert. Although there’s a certain part of his brain that never really left that canyon, he’s had a mostly happy life here, with his adopted brother Tucker and sister Trixie, both of whom he adored, and of course with his beloved Mama, and now with this kittens. Oh, and his Dada is hanging around here somewhere, too.

Dennis: Ten Years in Ten Pictures

I’m not sure how or when he turned into a grey-muzzled senior. Dogs sure are sneaky that way.

Although there’ll never be another pack like his first pack, Dennis does have some nice new friends now to keep him company.
