(Somewhat) Wordless Wednesday: Graduadiation

Dada’s Note: When Dennis finished with his radiation treatments last Wednesday, the entire staff of the Angel Care Cancer Center at California Veterinary Specialists came out to give him this cool bandanna and a heart-shaped cake made of canned food. After his mama let them know that Dennis is on a hydrolyzed diet, they took the cake back and made him a new one out of hydrolyzed Royal Canin canned food, which Dennis happily devoured. Thank you, CVS, for taking such good care of our sweet little old man dog!

Since his treatments ended, Dennis has been getting around better, and is putting more weight on his left leg (though he does still occasionally stand with it lifted). He’s got some trot back in his walk, and seems to have an easier time getting onto the sofa and into the human bed for his “furniture therapy”. Of course, it helps that we took the legs off the bed, removing about five inches of height from it. He goes back in next Tuesday for his post-radiation follow-up where we’ll review his progress and see how he’s doing. Assuming all continues to go well, the median survival time from this point for dogs with his kind of osteosarcoma is about six months.

  2. What a wonderful staff at your vet’s. Lexi was given 1 month and made it 3. May Dennis have 3 times the amount you were told! P.S. I slept on a mattress on the floor with her the last 3 months she was with us. I have a very understanding husband.

  3. Dennis, don’t listen to ‘median blah blah blah’. Trust me – I’m a statistician! Pay no attention to those silly numbers and instead focus on the important things, like snacks and naps!

  5. It can make such a difference when you have vet folks who really care. We hope Dennis gets at least that six months and much more. Keep fighting, buddy.
