Two Years Ago Today

Two years ago today, we heard from vizsla rescue that four vizslas had been found wandering in a desert canyon and needed to be picked up from the shelter. We agreed to help transport them and to foster one of them.

Parvo Puppies Update

A big thank you to everyone who was concerned about the puppies who had been rescued from the desert and were being treated for parvo!  We’ve heard an update from the rescue list about them and it sounds very positive:

Good news all the way around! We have tested the boy twice, and he is showing negative. The little girl came home to her foster family on Saturday and is eating like she hasn’t eaten in a week! Ok, well I guess she really does have a week to make up! Her foster mom says she is working on fattening her back up. Both puppies seem to be doing well. Thank you to everyone for your donations, prayers, and good thoughts! keep them coming as we want to make sure these two little ones are going to heal up and return to 100%!

The vet does say little Cleo should be safe to go up for adoption in a week. She is a fighter!

Thanks again everyone!

Rescue Parvo Pups

Two of the vizsla puppies currently in rescue have come down with parvo.  Vizsla rescue is pretty stretched at the moment and is accepting donations to cover the costs of trying to save these little guys.  They were found in an abandoned house out in the desert.  From the vizsla rescue list:

Donations Sought For Surgery For Rescue Vizsla – Nashville, TN

You have to love a dog named after Bill Paxton’s character from Aliens.  (Well, I do, anyway.)  More information can be found at From the vizsla rescue list:

Just an update on the dogs found in Nashville, and a plea for help. We are trying to raise money for Hudson’s surgery. The estimated cost to repair his leg is $2600. Our club raised $370 bathing dogs last Saturday and we’ve had several generous donations by individuals, but we are only half way to our goal. If you would like to contribute, please go to

Hudson is scheduled for surgery on June 11th. He and Hunter are being fostered separately, and both are doing well.

Thanks for your help!

Subject: 2 vizslas found in Nashville, TN (Update)

These boys have not been claimed. Yesterday they were both neutered. One boy was x-rayed for an ongoing limp, which unfortunately revealed an old elbow fracture that never fused. We are shopping around for an orthopedist and will probably be starting a collection drive soon. Our vet said it could be upwards of $3000 to repair. 😦
